Celebrating History at Rendezvous Days

In August of every year, reenactors bring history to life at Grand Portage National Monument for Rendezvous Days.
This year’s celebration revisited 1797, a time when North West Company agents, clerks, and partners gathered to conduct business and Anishinaabe, Cree, and other Native families gathered by the shore to trade and reunite with friends and family.
NPLSF is a long-time sponsor of this free event, which includes music, dancing, craft demonstrations, and hands-on workshops.
This year, NPLSF support allowed the National Park Service to provide crucial supplies including ice for reenactors, who spent a very warm weekend in often heavy costumes. The NPLSF information table also sparked numerous conversations about ways individuals can help our national parks.
“Grand Portage National Monument visitors, historic reenactors, and people attending the pow wow nearby feel such a strong connection to this place,” said NPLSF Executive Director Tom Irvine. “Many people don’t realize the important need NPLSF fills as a philanthropic partner, helping individuals and others contribute to the long term health of our parks and Lake Superior.”
