BriAnna Weldon Selected as Superintendent of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore

The National Park Service (NPS) has selected BriAnna Weldon as the superintendent of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, located in Wisconsin.
"We are pleased to welcome BriAnna as the new superintendent of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore," said NPS Regional Director Bert Frost. “Her leadership in outdoor recreation, visitor use and experience, and collaboration and partnerships make her an excellent choice as the next superintendent for this park."
“It is an honor to be selected as superintendent of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore,” said Weldon. “The National Lakeshore is a living example of interdependence, where natural ecosystems, cultural heritage, identity, and outdoor experiences are deeply connected. I look forward to listening, learning, and working alongside others to help ensure the lakeshore remains a special place for current residents and visitors, and future generations.”
Weldon brings more than a decade of NPS experience and a range of leadership experiences, including as a Branch Chief with the Denver Service Center Transportation Division, supporting large-scale infrastructure projects; as the Outdoor Recreation Planner for the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, fostering partnerships along the 1,200-mile corridor; and as an AmeriCorps Fellow with the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program, supporting locally-led conservation and outdoor recreation projects in Los Angeles. Weldon holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and a Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.
Apostle Islands National Lakeshore encompasses nearly 70,000 acres in northern Wisconsin and is comprised of 21 islands in Lake Superior and 12 miles of shoreline. The park features pristine beaches and coves, spectacular sea caves, remarkable geology, remnants of ancient forests, a diverse population of birds, mammals, amphibians, and fish, and the largest collection of historic lighthouses in the national park system. The Apostle Islands have been inhabited for thousands of years and are the traditional home of the Ojibwe people and integral to their culture.
Weldon and her husband, Sean, will relocate to Wisconsin this fall. Together, they enjoy competitive curling, coaching youth sports, water-based recreation, and working on house projects.
